The old market town of Faaborg was mentioned for the first time in history in the year 1229. The Harbour of Faaborg was for centuries one of the most important harbours in Denmark. Nowadays, the harbour is a gateway to the South Funen Archipelago and the islands of Lyø, Avernakø, Bjørnø and Ærø. Furthermore, sailors from all over Europe visit the marina every year.
